Sienna Patti Contemporary is pleased to announce a recent museum acquisition by New York’s Museum of Art and Design. The 2017 necklace, Museum of Broken Desires: Nipples, by multidisciplinary artist Lauren Kalman, was aquired for the permanent collection. Assistant Curator Barbara Paris Gifford states: “Kalman is a fearless advocate for women and craft. Like the “pussy hat,” by making badges of honor that unapologetically reference the female anatomy, Kalman is reactivating craft as a protest medium.”
Lauren Kalman is a visual artist based in Detroit, whose practice is invested in contemporary craft, video, photography and performance. Through her work she investigates beauty, adornment, body image, value, and consumer culture. Raised in the Midwest, Kalman completed her MFA in Art and Technology from the Ohio State University and earned a BFA with a focus in metals from the Massachusetts College of Art.
