It is easy to be blinded by the lights, lost in the razzle-dazzle, distracted by the sparkly bits, but what if the vibrancy and luster are merely foreplay? Meant to seduce the viewer, to start a relationship with the passer-by about identity, culture, histories, and memories. To subvert expectations. This is the objective of the work gathered in Exuberance, united by its colorful and ebullient presence; it is work that takes up room and holds space. The exhibition includes the work of Sulo Bee, Jamie Bennett, Helen Britton, Taisha Carrington, Everett Hoffman, Lucy Pearl Petts, Leslie Shershow, Coco Sung, Georgina Trevino, and Mallory Weston. The artists featured are trained metalsmiths. In their hands, whether abstract, narrative, banal, or bizarre, each piece shares the quality of exquisite construction. Because they have the knowledge and skills to make anything, what they choose becomes even more meaningful.  And they chose not to hold back by creating work that is complex, messy, fluid, ugly, beautiful, and multi-layered, just like the world around them. Works are exhibited in conversation with selected objects and furniture from the R & Company collection. Curated by Bella Neyman and Sienna Patti. In conjunction with NYC Jewelry Week 2022.
