MUNICH— On Sunday, March 16 join British artist Caroline Broadhead for a discussion on the evolution of her practice, which has spanned over 50 years and continues to thrive. Starting in jewelry in the 1970s, her work has developed to include a broader consideration of what we cover ourselves with and what familiar and recognizable objects our bodies touch or interact with daily. Starting out in jewelry in the 1970s, her work has developed to include a broader consideration of what we cover ourselves with and what familiar and recognizable objects our bodies touch or interact with daily. Recurring themes in her work involve examining where the boundaries between an individual or object are vague or ill-defined, be that between surface and interior, presence and absence, public and private, or the definition of a sense of territory and personal space. The work has explored the outer extents of the body as seen through light, shadows, reflections, and movement. Broadhead will discuss her larger scale and collaborative projects working with ideas about space and boundaries between people to develop atmospheres that elicit subjective, emotional responses.
"Often my work tries to offer more than one way of encountering it. I use readily available materials and very simple techniques, seeking to create engaging visual and tactile qualities. Fundamentally, I am motivated by my curiosity and enjoyment for learning new ways of working."
