Raïssa Bump .\ METAL MUSEUM
MEMPHIS—The Metal Museum has acquired a Raïssa Bump brooch from the Radical Jewelry Makeover: The Artist Project.
'We are absolutely over the moon! I love this series and am so glad one of the pieces will live in the museum's permanent collection. It is an important example of RJM jewelry and embodies the project's ethos,' says Susie Ganch, co-director of the Radical Jewelry Makeover.
About the work, Raissa Bump writes, “For this round of Radical Jewelry Makeover, I chose one format, a small circular brooch fabricated in silver, and highlighted the donated chain and wire of various values by creating different central fields for reflection. The fields are collages of parts and pieces, perhaps shortened but not further altered from the state that I received them. Chain spirals and becomes floral or nest-like. Wires from rings, clasps, and pendants are sewn together to create compositions, texture, and ornament void of the function they were originally made for. All could be disassembled and reused once again.”
