A former broadcast journalist, Leavitt spent years telling other people’s stories before turning to metalsmithing as a way to tell her own. Today, from her New York studio, she forges one-of-a-kind pieces that sit at the intersection of archaeology and intimacy. Working primarily in 18k–22k gold, Taryn forms and finishes each piece using age-old techniques: chasing, repoussé, forging, and lost-wax casting. Her surfaces carry the evidence of the hand - hammered, carved, scarred, burnished - each mark a record of the body in motion.⁠
