--- .\  ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

"Should you shield the canyons from the windstorms you would never see the true beauty of their carvings." - Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

Taryn Leavitt’s jewelry feels unearthed—like something found in the ruins of an ancient city or plucked from a riverbank after centuries underground. And yet it is unmistakably of this moment: personal, intentional, and grounded in the physical act of making.

A former broadcast journalist, Leavitt spent years telling other people’s stories before turning to metalsmithing as a way to tell her own. Today, from her New York studio, she forges one-of-a-kind pieces that sit at the intersection of archaeology and intimacy. Her work draws on ancient iconography but never as static homage - these references are alive in her hands, reshaped through gesture and intuition.

Working primarily in 18k–22k gold, Taryn forms and finishes each piece using age-old techniques: chasing, repoussé, forging, and lost-wax casting. Her surfaces carry the evidence of the hand - hammered, carved, scarred, burnished - each mark a record of the body in motion.

Her pieces often feature unusual stones, including uncut diamonds, meteorites, tourmaline, and baroque pearls. Gems with histories, textures, and imperfections. Their natural asymmetry plays against the structural precision of the gold, echoing the wild harmony of a seedpod, a snail shell, or a branch.

Leavitt’s work is slow, tactile, and profoundly personal. In GARDEN, her forms feel like contemporary relics meant not just to adorn the body, but to root us in our own rituals of care, remembrance, and connection. Each piece is a wearable talisman, a modern artifact that invites us to notice the natural world and hold it close.
